Re: Rate the Endup!
Wed, January 4, 2006 - 1:23 PMThe End Up is becoming a slime-pit for the yuppie-I-have-money-so-I-know-everything-anything-crowd. Psst, the new owners are yuppies. What you have now are left-overs from the twitch (cocaine) & bitch crowd from Ten15. The owners welcome this - as though the End Up was in serious danger from a lack of loyal clubbers previously. Any one hear the new radio spots - the "infamous" End Up, the "world-famous" End -Up (sounds a lot like the Coke v Coke Classic commercials - nothing, but soul-less garbage. -

Re: Rate the Endup!
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 4:14 PMIf weren't for the new "yuppie" owners I don't think there would be an End Up at all at this point, so...
A simple "thank you" would probably be a more appropriate post. -

Re: Rate the Endup!
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 4:36 PMWhat good is the club, gutted of what made it famous?
I got your thank you by way of a middle finger.

Re: Rate the Endup!
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 6:19 PMI have been going to the end up for a decade now......and sure they are different people and music. Its called change and evolution. We happen to totally disagree and the best part is you never ever have to go again. I would suggest using your "energy" in a more positive way.
Good luck

You mean the Dealers, E-Tards, G-tards, K-tards and Tweakers?
A REAL good start....

Re: Rate the Endup!
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 6:19 PMAnyone making over $36k these days is a yuppie. ;)
I don't really see what anyone is pissed about. Let's list out a few things:
Promotions dropped/left:
1. Club Seen (Juanita Moore's party) (dropped for Revolution)
2. Devotion (Quit, and is now defunct)
3. Raw (was going to quit anyway and the change over was as good a time as any)
Promotions that stayed:
1. Wind Up
2. Fag Fridays
3. Ascention
4. Regge Gold/International
5. T-Dance
New Promotions:
1. Super Soul Sundays
2. Revolutionary (with DJ Keoki & guests: this Sat we have Tommy Sunshine)
3. Substance: 80's comes to The Endup
4. Special one offs like Derrik Carter, 92.7 promotions, Gene Farris, etc
Venue Changes layout changes
Things Removed:
1. Railing around Patio
2. Large giant seat risers by pool table
3. Horrid Bathrooms
Things added:
1. New plants and landscaping out back plus bamboo
2. New pump in the waterfall to make it a waterfall and not a trickle
3. new paint all around teh patio (needed desperately)
4. New lighting on the balcony, new seating, opened up so you can see down below while sitting
5. Rock work out back patched, fixed
6. Bathrooms fixed and redigned so they are nice to use
7. new speakers added around main bar for better sound fill
8. New system in the back room with two sub drivers and from sat's in corners instead of 1 blown monitor in back.
9. New awnings that better match the decor
10. Budda up on the roof looking down! (who doesn't wanna party with buddah?)
11. New all weather padded benches on the fence line
12. NICE stainless steel & teak patio chairs that arn't an insurance lawsuit waiting to happen like the old chairs
13. new cocktail tables that are artistic and kinda cool.
14. New lighting in the plants to highlight and accent without blinding.
Other embellishments
1. Random free shots passed around during Ascention & T-Dance
2. Longer hours
3. No closing time on certain nights (Regge nights closes for an hour just so we can tear down the decorations)
4. Rotations week to week for T-Dance so every week it's not the exact same line up and some surprises and guests thrown in.
So ya, I think things are better.

Re: Rate the Endup!
Sat, January 14, 2006 - 4:21 PMTo make a long story short.......Just like the people in SF has changed in the last few yrs (sadly not for the better).......so has the club lifestyle in SF. It has to change or die. The whole tweeker era was the bomb in it's time but that really had to change as well. I haven't been in a while (4-5yrs)but I guarantee you....people are still partying just as hard as they were back then. -

Re: Rate the Endup!
Sat, January 14, 2006 - 8:18 PMProblem is the laws have changed, drastically.
Use dto be a time where if somebody was in teh club holding, they were responcible for their actions, and not the club. Sure, if theyre were openly doing it, you dealt with it, but now even holding will get a club shut down for 30 days, or possibly forever.
Thank the RAVE laws.
So, now we have to be bigger assholes, and tell people horrible things like "Hi, keep your drugs out of the club, I don't care what you do down the street or in the car, but don't do them here."
Ya, It's really mean of us, and harshing peoples mellow. I feel for them. really.
Point is if people like the clubs, and such, then there is a bit of help we need to keep them going and safe.
1. Don't bring drugs into the club. We have Ins & Outs so you can go to your car and do whatever.
2. Do not do so much of anything (including alc) in which you no longer maintain control.
3. Don't OD in the club. Those paramedic calls are all strikes against the club even though we're doing the right thing and saving lives.

Re: Rate the Endup!
Wed, March 8, 2006 - 3:38 PMThe other weekend at the Endup some guy was wearing a shirt that said "Die Yuppie Scum." I told him that I was a yuppie and asked him what he was going to do about it. I have no respect for people who don't stand behind their t-shirt slogans. -

Re: Rate the Endup!
Wed, March 8, 2006 - 3:41 PMSomehow I just don't pictur eyou as a yuppie.

Re: Rate the Endup!
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 3:19 PMI think I'm ready to give my 2 cents and I will be constructive about it...
I agree with alot of things said in this thread like the fact that the club scene has changed quite a bit, especially in the past few years.
I've attended the endup only twice and the club is beautiful, there is no doubt about that.
The main issues that seem to be present are that there is confusion of what the vibe should be like (ie: music)
When i was there last, I heard everything from bad 5-year-old rap tunes to 80s to industrial to tenatious D, and dont get me wrong, I love tenatious D, but when I'm out trying to party and dance? Not so much...
this is just me personaly, but I prefer to be in an environment with progresive music that stimulates thought and bloodflow so i may better socialize and get my groove on the dancefloor.
My friends complained heavily about the trainwrecking. For those that dont know, thats when in between two songs being played, you hear mismatched beats so that it basicly sounds like shoes in a dryer... not terribly condusive for continuous dancing, but alot of clubs seem to like it cause it causes people to leave the dancefloor and head to the bar for another drink...
Over all it seems like a pretty cool establishement and I'd certainly go at some point if there were something specific to attract me back.
So far the only name that sounds appealing is Gene Farris, who I've seen rock it before on 3 decks.
Do any of your resident djs have demos i can DL? I'm curious about how/what the play.
anyways, much love to the Endup and hopefully you guys will get everything figured out! -

Re: Rate the Endup!
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 3:46 PMThat was valentines... That's called a wild one off, and not the norm. We were playing a wide mix of music, and not just something like 120 bpm for 8 hours...
Don't judge a vibe by a single one off themed event...
for the most part, each night is developing it's own vibe. Wednesday will have a very distinct vie from thrursday, which isn't friday, which isn't saturday, etc. They'll all be very much The Endup, but have their own feel. What's the point of the place if every night feels like every other night?

Re: Rate the Endup!
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 4:16 PMAnd I've been there twice. I appreciate though that you know what night Im talking about. And there was definately a wide RANGE of music going on. (I'm not sure the word mix applies here)
the other time which i did not speak about was probably around 126 bpm for the hour or so I was there, which was kinda ok.
I'm sorry if you felt I judged the endup, nowhere did I say it was good or bad.
i don't feel as if I made any sort of judgement on anything, just stated observations from me and people around me and fact about what went on while i was there. I got nothing bad to say about the endup.
and for the most part, I completely agree that its good to have themed nights. I hooked up one of your promoters with the names of some quality djs that I know for your female dj night, which i think is a very cool concept. Don't think I don't got your back, ok?
I'm sure everything will get worked out, its all a big learning process right?

Re: Rate the Endup!
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 4:21 PMok, i take it back, after reading my first statement I realized that i did give a sort of judgement at the end...
I said I thought i was a cool establishment. at least it was a positive judgement, lol. -

Re: Rate the Endup!
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 6:33 PMIts' all good. IMHO I'm thrilled to have the new owners break some new ground, and think outside of what's "tried true & safe"
Take a few risks, throw in some surprises, and make things FUN.
There's nothing better than walking into teh place you hang at all the time and say "Oh wow! What is this? Is this The Endup? Holy shit! I don't know these people, I don't know this music, but damn if this doesn't look like a LOT of fun!"
Instead of.... thump thump thump thump thump thump "hey... I think this song was playing when I left last night.."
;)
Thanks for the Female DJ names... we've gotten an amazing response of willing participants. Now the hard part is that we only have room for 12 per month!

Re: Rate the Endup!
Tue, March 14, 2006 - 6:40 AMyou all must have gotten kicked out of the endup at some point because thats the only reason you'd be bitching about it....the endup hasn't really changed THAT much... fag fridays and the saturday morning party are still there and sunday morning is still bumpin like it always does. ...you all just dont know when to go.
